BCMU CONDEMNS SYSTEMIC CORRUPTION, CALLS FOR WORKING-CLASS ACTION

The Black Consciousness Movement United (BCMU) notes with grave concern the recent revelations by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi regarding corruption within the criminal justice system and alleged links between public officials and criminal syndicates.

While many have expressed shock, BCMU is neither surprised nor astonished by these allegations, as they point to a deeper crisis within the capitalist system.

Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi speaks at media briefing (6/7/2025)

The Crisis of the Capitalist System

The alleged actions by those named by Mkhwanazi are a direct result of the inherent greed and individualism that the capitalist system breeds. This system leads to a situation where those with proximity to national resources would do anything, including engaging in corruption and open criminality, to lay their hands on these resources, regardless of the cost or consequences.

The Real Victims

The real victims of these criminal networks are black people, who rely on the state for services.

Black working-class youth are at the receiving end of the drug pandemic, while the children of those at the apex of the syndicates and cartels attend exclusive private schools and are protected from the negative effects of this criminality.

No Commission or Reshuffling Will Help

BCMU believes that the calls for a commission of enquiry, the firing or suspension of politicians who have been named, or the dismissal of senior police officers will not address the root causes of the problem. Only working-class action can stop the decay and expose the inherent rot of the system.

Working-Class Solidarity and Action Required

BCMU calls on the black working class to understand that the contestation unfolding has nothing to do with their interests. Everything will be aimed at protecting the interests of the elites and saving the capitalist system.

The black working class should have no interest in saving the system. Instead, they should unite and take action to expose the system’s rot and fight for their rights.
